Good morning Day 2 – top bracket is up!

Good morning Day 2 – top bracket is up!

Saturday morning started with sustained periods of heavy rain,  challenging teams to adapt or be eliminated from the championship bracket. Organization was excellent with staff protecting video and electronics from the moisture while pairs of scorekeepers headed out to  report on time with charged and covered iPads for a perfect 9am start in the men’s division.

The Swiss FAB’s first game was a wet one and their opponent, Dublin’s Sandjob,  seemed right at home under the grey skies. Sprints were extra fast as the packed wet sand was more similar grass than a traditional beach pitch. The undefeated Bern based squad handed the Irish their first loss of the day, winning 13-5.

In other games, Ragnarok was unable to hold off a fired up Fendisc losing 8-11 while Freezzzbeezzz beat Vira’o’Disco 13-7.  The French Magic Disc Angers continued their unbroken records defeating Scorilliaz 13-4, and Hamburg based Hassliche Erdferkel was unable to get their first win losing 8-12 to Valencia based Murcielagos.

Two super close games decided by one point had RealFive battle it out with MightyHucks and Shadows dueling the Cosmo men.  Both games ended 10-9, with the Russians (RealFive & Shadows) beating their British and Slovenian counterparts.

Lot’s of excitement in the mixed  division, with Grut and Corocotta going to universe and GRUT pulling it out 13-12 while the Ireland’s Cosmis sands fell 10-12 against UFA. Russo Turisto, Midnight Cobras, and Mainzelrenner continue their unbeaten streaks, guaranteeing their way into the top bracket.

The big upset in the mixed division was handed to us by the French team, Tourne-Disc, who won their first game of the tournament beating Chupacabras 10-5 to advance to quarters. HuskEZ All Stars and Mubidisk also came out victorious in pre-quarters and advance to the possibility of becoming champions.

The women had the opportunity to have their coffee this morning, and start play at 11h00 with intermittent showers. As we saw yesterday, the Cosmic Girls are dominating, quickly gaining their spot by beating out Rebel Ultimate by 13-3. ZUF also is in the top bracket, as does Yellow Fujever and Seagulls. The organizing team, Cremas, continues undefeated after beating out DiscOver from Lisbon, who are for the first time representing Portugal in the women’s division at the elite level.

The Spinners from Denmark  continue in the competition for the championship after beating out Elvis Presley 11-8. The last two teams in the top bracket are Parrochas and Catchup Women from Austria.

Keep in touch for more news soon – what an exciting, and probably very wet, afternoon it will be!
